During the holiday shopping season, it’s always in the backs of people’s minds that their credit and debit cards will be hacked somehow. And it never fails; every year, thousands of Americans have their checking accounts drained due to a glitch in security, often stemmed from a breach at a major retailer.

After analyzing the FBI larceny and theft numbers from 2013, we have determined these are the 10 Michigan cities where shoppers need to be on guard the highest:

  7. Holland

  10. Lincoln Park

In case you’re wondering, Farmington Hills is the least likely place in Michigan where your data will be breached. We measured 54 of Michigan’s largest cities.


What cyber crime criteria did we use?

In order to rank the cities in Michigan where shoppers are the most likely to be the victim of a card scam, credit card breach or otherwise have their personal information stolen, we simply had to measure the number of larcenies that occurred within a city limits, and divided that number by the population to get a per capita number.
