The 10 Most Boring Places In Kentucky For 2023

The most boring places in Kentucky are Monticello and London for 2023 based on Saturday Night Science.

There’s no denying it: there are plenty of places in Kentucky that are downright beautiful and full of excitement.

Unfortunately, not all towns and cities in Bluegrass State are so lucky.

Just like in all U.S. States, there are definitely some boring places within Kentucky’s’ borders. You know the places where everyone has an AARP card and the most exciting thing they do all day is post a picture of their grandchild on Facebook.

Like Monticello, for instance. In our latest analysis, we found that this city was the most boring city in all of Oklahoma according to Saturday Night Science. But don’t feel bad if you’re a resident of Monticello. There are plenty of other boring, lackluster places in Kentucky as well.

Here they are. Try not to jump out of your seat with excitement.

Don’t freak out, in fact, believe it not, a boring city is actually one a lot of people would like to call home.

Before you get all upset if your city’s name is on the list, rest assured that we didn’t use personal opinion when it comes to what classifies a city or town as “boring” or “exciting”. We crunched actual numbers to figure out which towns are statistically more boring.

Showing this data to you is the kind of thing that a real estate agent knows, but would never share.

Methodology: How we determined the boring cities in the Bluegrass State

You would present the following case to your friends if you were argueing with them at a bar about the most boring place to live in Kentucky. And that’s why we call it Saturday Night Science.

Because our data speaks more truth than feelings.

To figure out how boring a place is, we factored in things we generally think make people exciting, and then we figure out which cities have the least number of those exciting people.

We used the U.S. American Community Census data to gather the information presented here. HSome of the things people tend to think of as making a city’s population boring include:

  • % of Population Over 25 (higher is more boring)
  • % of Married Household (higher is more boring)
  • Average Age (higher is more boring)
  • % of Households With Kids (higher is more boring)
  • Population density (lower is more boring)

Then, our algorithm generates a ranking for each place in these categories. After crunching the numbers, all of the cities ranked from most boring to most exciting.

For this ranking, we used every Kentucky city with at least 5,000 residents. This keeps us from prejudicing our rankings by including very small pockets of retired people.

Grab your rocker and hold on.

We updated this article for 2023, and it’s our tenth time ranking the most boring cities in Kentucky.

There You Have It – Now That You’re Asleep

On a ranking like this, there are usually no winners, but since Kentucky isn’t necessarily the most boring state in the United States, the cities on this ranking can at least take solace that there are, in fact, more boring cities in the country.

If you’re also curious enough, here are the most exciting places in Kentucky, according to science:

  1. Highland Heights
  2. Murray
  3. Wilmore

  1. Ha. When I was a teenager I said this all the time while living in Edgewood. Looking back however, it wasn’t so bad.

  2. I think your data is wrong because Edgewood actually has more kids, teenagers, and young adults living in it then adults 45 and older. We have many parks that are walking distance and down the street we have a country club and a fantastic fire department that puts on many event each year. On top of that looking at the full list it’s not just all Kentucky cities, there are Ohio and Indiana cities included also. So it’s safe to say that this article is all wrong for many reasons..

  3. Growing up in Princeton wasn’t boring for me. It was a fun place actually. CCHS was front and center with our top rated band and consistently competitive sports. Princeton Regulars baseball team was tops. We had the pool rooms, Capitol every Sat. Sidewalks in downtown were crowded, nearly impassable on Saturdays.
Churches were non-judgemental on Sunday. We had one good weekly newspaper (Caldwell Co. Times). Neighborhood grocery stores. It’s all changed now and has earned it’s place on top 10 list of most boring city. When I contemplated moving back, time after time, friends and strangers with whom I talked told me it would be a mistake to come back because indeed Princeton no longer was a desirable place to live. I listened. I took that advice. I’m glad I did.

  4. Are you, Nick James and RoadSnacks, feeling important, on cloud nine and on a natural high now that you have insulted and battered these small towns? It would have taken the same energy and research to instead write about the exciting towns in KY and left the others to the readers imaginations. The “complex algorithm” you used sounds like you have found places that are most likely low in crime and safe to raise a family. Maybe you guys can do an article using those algorithms. Or is this idea not ”exciting” enough for you and won’t make you feel good?

  5. Bedford , Kentucky should be #1 for most boring town in Kentucky, we have an over priced small connivence store, dollar general and 4 places to eat at. Literally nothing to do but go to other towns.
