Good news, bad news situation for Sheridan, a city that already ranked as one of Denver’s worst suburbs due to its high crime rates.
The good news is that the violent crime rate in Sheridan was nearly cut in half in 2024. That’s a significant achievement, and we’re sure residents are happy they can walk in the park without worrying about being attacked.
The bad news is that high rates of property crime persist. Residents had a 1 in 14 chance of being the victim of a property crime over 2024.
That’s also enough to give Sheridan the second highest total crime rate in Colorado — nearly quadruple the national average.

Pueblo is located in the south-central part of the state. It sits along I-25, the main north-south transportation artery in Colorado, about two hours south of Denver.
With 110,805 residents, Pueblo counts as a major population center in its region. As such, you’d expect some crime. But the city takes this to another level. In fact, it stands as the number 2 most dangerous city in Colorado.
Violence represents a major problem in the area. The community suffered 1,578 violent crimes in a year. This total included 19 murders and 160 sexual assaults.

In other words, you’re still good to go for a jog at City Park. Still, Denver had 8,895 car thefts in 2025. Which is confusing, considering you can’t walk five steps without passing an electric scooter in Denver.

Located in south-central Colorado, Alamosa comes in as the state’s fourth least safe place. However, as a popular tourist destination with loads to do year-round and an annual music festival, Summerfest on the Rio, Alamosa’s crime numbers might be slightly inflated.
Still, there’s no arguing that the city had the 18th highest burglary rate in Colorado, which definitely means that residents were victimized, not tourists.
On top of that, Alamosa averaged more than one rape case per month in 2024, which is a big part of why it ranks as the third most violent place in Colorado overall.

That’s mostly because La Junta had the highest burglary rate statewide for 2024. Not to mention an average of two stolen cars a month — pretty high for such a small place.
And it’s not all broken windows and stolen vehicles, either. La Junta also had the 11th highest rate of rape cases in Colorado.

Methodology: How we determined the most dangerous cities in Colorado for 2025?
Every year the FBI release two crime datasets on cities in Colorado. First a preliminary dataset limited to the biggest cities in Colorado, followed by a more detailed release at the end of the year.
For our analysis, we focused on the 2024 data, specifically the 2024 Crime In The United States Report for Colorado.
So what criteria did we use? Have a look:
- Violent Crimes Per Capita
- Property Crimes Per Capita
In order to make the analysis as apples to apples as possible, we only considered Colorado cities over 5,000 in population. That left us with 71 cities in Colorado.
We then ranked each city from 1 to 71 for the two criteria with a #1 ranking being the most dangerous for the particular criteria.
Next, we averaged the two rankings into one “Dangerous Index”.
Finally, we ranked every city on the “Dangerous Index” with the lowest index being the most dangerous in Colorado — Sheridan. Any ties went to the smaller city.

This story has the Pueblo locals upset! But it’s the old frog in the pot of boiling water bit: They don’t realize how bad it’s gotten because they’re in the pot as it’s slowly come to a boil. I lived there for 4 years and was prompted to buy a gun while there…and that was on the “nice” north side. East side, Bessemer/ south side are major crime problems. Bottom line: Pueblo has voted for death (democrat=abortion), and now they’re reaping what they’ve sown. Truly heartbreaking.

At a neighborhood watch meeting, the sheriff said the crime rate in Pueblo and surrounding areas has increased substantially in the past 2 years because of passage of marijuana usage/industry, Cartel, and drugs. Poor job market/low wages. Gangs and major problems in schools. Overall, Puebloans do not like to see newbies in community.
Pueblo West is better but has seen increase in crime, also. Home burglaries and vehicle break-ins.
Looking for cash, jewelry, electronic equipment. The cost of living here is lower. I have a nice home that I couldn’t get in the Springs or other cities. Gangs and major problems in schools.

Those are based on crime in Denver and Springs fool! You now have to go through a security check at Parkview to visit patients or any other type of service in the hospital! Does that tell you a safe environment? I’ve never been to a hospital where I had to go through a metal detector and I’ve been around this Country! However, the security there is a joke! It’s only a metal detector and a cop searching purses! Drugs could get past so easy it isn’t even funny!

Sorry, folks. But I live in Pueblo. I’ve been here a year and I’m counting the days until I get to leave. I moved here from Denver a year ago and this place is like a freaking third world country, in terms of the quality of life and the total lack of sophistication here. It is a very dangerous place. Most of the people are uneducated and have no idea how to act in a workplace let alone have any problem solving or social skills. Sorry all you people that love Pueblo; it is a dangerous place! Wake up, and look around!

I left a comment yesterday regarding Pueblo; didn’t get published for whatever reason. As I stated yesterday; Pueblo is a horrible, unsafe place to live in. It is a well-known fact that Pueblo has a very high rate of crime per capita, and has a huge shortage of police officers. There is a vast amount of gang related crime here, and a large degree of heroin use here. There are home invasions during the day while people are at home, cars are constantly being broken into, etc. The population here is uneducated, and to top it off have no social skills, conflict management skills, nor do they have any idea how to act in the workplace. I worked in a call center here, where there were daily incidents of employees yelling and cussing at each other, supervisors bragging about how drunk they can get, dhow often they get drunk–all while in front of a large conference room of employees. I could go on about the joys of living in Pueblo, but I’m out of time.

If you really want a strong cup of joe to wake up…well then look at the country as a whole. Everywhere its bad. Sure isnt like the ol days. Used to leave doors unlocked and keys in ignition. I live in canon city, and the heroin use is as bad here as in pueblo.
I have had a lot of things stolen this past year. Jewelry, coins, a 380, oh and let’s not forget the metal fixture on the side of a house to wind your garden hose up on. Pueblo is unsafe because the DA and the AG allow rape and murder and could care less. The police protect the “in” people when it comes to reporting crimes and cover up crimes. –the judges are just as corrupt. There are no laws in Pueblo–only “good ol boys and big boy gangs. Then-the kids have their gangs also. No law and order when it comes to the “important” people in Pueblo.–they are allowed to be criminals. We have a horrible DA who ignores murder and rape–NEVER move to Pueblo. Even gang members could find a better place t o live. I lived in Pueblo up until I finished high school then I joined the navy and settled in San Diego Ca after leaving the navy. While living in Pueblo I was very frustrated of the great lack of recreational and entertainment functions.As a teen I would see ads for such things as record hops and other events and said I want to check that out and when gave the location it was in Colorado springs or worse yet in Denver. The other smaller town, of course, just 10 crimes in a population of 10,000 or less skews the data.
