When the Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of same-sex marriages, America generally, and the gay community specifically, celebrated. Same-sex marriages, and the gay and lesbian movement is more mainstream than ever.
While the national discussion has been brought to the forefront, at the state level, conversations continue.
Did you know that an estimated 0.49% of Florida residents is gay? That ranks 11 in the nation. That means there are a total of 129,000 gay households in The Sunshine State.
Our goal with this post is to use data and science to determine the gayest cities in Florida.
After analyzing 260 cities with over 1,000 households, we’ve determined these are The Gayest Cities in Florida:

1. Wilton Manors
Wilton Manors is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 11,632. Wilton Manors is part of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area, which was home to 5,564,635 people at the 2010 census.
Newberry is a city located on the southwest side of Alachua County, Florida, United States. The population was 4,950 at the 2010 census.. The University of Florida estimates the city’s population at 5,946 as of September 2016. Much of the city borders the neighboring Gilchrist County to the west. The current mayor is Jordan Marlowe.
3. Oakland Park
Oakland Park, officially the City of Oakland Park, is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city’s population was 41,363, mainly due to annexation of North Andrews Gardens and Twin Lakes South. It is part of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area, which was home to 5,564,635 people at the 2010 census.

Miami Shores is a village in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States.
9. North Bay Village
North Bay Village is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 6,733. As of 2010, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau was 7,137.
10. Key West
Key West is an island city in Florida and the county seat of Monroe County. The city boundaries include the island of Key West and several nearby islands, as well as the section of Stock Island north of U.S. Route 1, on the adjacent key just east of the city. Sigsbee Park-originally known as Dredgers Key-and Fleming Key, both located to the north, and Sunset Key located to the west are all included in the city boundaries. Both Fleming Key and Sigsbee Park are part of Naval Air Station Key West and are inaccessible to the general public. Key West is the southernmost city in the contiguous United States and the southern terminus of U.S. Route 1, State Road A1A, the East Coast Greenway and, before 1935, the Florida East Coast Railway.
How do you determine the best cities for same-sex households in Florida?
In order to rank the gayest cities in Florida, we used the 2011-2016 American Community Survey from the U.S. Census. We looked at:
- Percentage of all households that are unmarried, same sex partners
We limited the analysis to non-CDPs that have over 1,000 households.
We ranked each place from 1 to 260 with the city containing the highest percentage of unmarried, same sex partners households being the most gay.
In the end, Wilton Manors ended up being the the most gay place with 9.48% gay households.
